Ios –or Niós– is a magnificent island with one of the most beautiful main towns of the Aegean and some of the most scenic beaches. Ios is also an island with a buzzing nightlife with numerous pubs, restaurants and bars. According to ancient tradition, Ios is the homeland of Homer’s mother and the final resting place of the renowned epic poet. His tomb is said to be located up in a hill of Plakotos, in the northern part of the island, which is easily accessible by car so that one can visit it and admire the magnificent view from the top. The Skarkos settlement in Ios is one of the most important prehistoric settlements of the world.
