Chios island enjoys worldwide recognition mostly for the cultivation and production of mastic. This unique aromatic resin “teardrops” is formed on the bark of the mastic trees that grow in the fertile region of Mastichochoria (mastic villages). The largest Chios mastic village is called Pyrgi. Pyrgi’s architecture is characterized by geometric patterns, called “graffito,” that is indeed a unique spectacle. Chios is a popular summer resort manly for Greeks rather than foreigners, hence an authentic Greek destination, with most of its beauty still unexplored.
